My Response To The Flood and The Innovations From It
The flood did not affect me or my family one bit. The area around my house was dry as usual. I have not volunteered, and would not like to. The flooded industrial areas and most other places were once floodplains that would carry away water, but not anymore, so this is just another example of industrialization's effect on the environment. The government also does an extremely poor job in managing the situation, giving us conflicting information mostly. One of more many rants about the government, the flood waters intended for Bangkok are kept at bay on the outskirts, swamping many poor people, and who's decision is this? Yingluck. Even though they elected her, she treats them as if they were a lesser priority than us in Bangkok. Unless the government gets tougher and has a more dedicated department that especially deals in floods, I believe that Thailand will not learn anything from this flood, and the same mistakes would happen again the next time a flood hits. But however, the innovations that resulted from the flood are very simple and effective ingenious items. The jet ski which is made out of a barrel, bike parts and a lawnmower is an example, it is easy to make, as the materials are easily found and it's useful for navigating flooded areas.

Chat, your perspective stands out. I wonder why you feel like the people "deserve" to be flooded? It is not explained in the post. Another interesting idea you mention but fail to explain is about your prediction. So you think something like this will happen again? When? Why won't the country learn anything from these weeks of devastation? How does the thought make you feel? What role do you play as a Thai resident? Thanks for sharing your thought-provoking ideas.
ReplyDeleteI think your blog gives a lot of opinion, which is great. I am glad that your house isn't flooded. I want to know why you think that people deserve the flood. I also think the government does a poor job in managing the flood, but the think the government have prepared well for the next flood like how they build water tunnels.
